Darn Police

The Paducah Police are really flinging a lot of cow poo (trying to keep this G rated) at the moment or maybe I'm just really frustrated with them and here's why:

1. About 2 months ago for no reason a cop pulls my husband over while driving home from work. Once pulled over my Kiwi husband gets out of the car. (This is standard procedure in NZ.) Now instead of talking to this nice international driver the cop pulls a gun on him and gets him for not wearing a seat-belt (which he was doing while driving) - fine number 1. Then (and this is where my husband is not so brilliant) the cop wants to see his driver's license. Unfortunately, he does not have his wallet on him so he gets a fine for that - fine number 2. Last he wants to see the proof of insurance for the car he's driving. (Note: Andrew is borrowing my parents truck) Annnnnd, my parents don't have the proof of insurance in the car - fine number 3.
This incident was all worked out when Andrew went down the courthouse with his driver's license and proof of insurance. (It only took 3 trips...)

2. About 3 weeks ago the PPD sent up a bust at 33 local liquor stores. Andrew was then working at a liquor store. He goes out to deliver a lady's purchases to her car and before going back in to work a cop comes and asks him for his driver's license (this time he does have it on him) and then informs him he has just sold alcohol to a minor. Andrew pointed out that this person was definitely above 21 years old and the cop proceeds to laugh in his face and tell him it happened 20-30 minutes earlier. He wrote out an incident report and left. Andrew returned to work unsure of what to do next. Over the next week Andrew repeatedly asked his employer for advice, but was basically told, "if you get convicted you'll be fired, because this is bad publicity." Thanks for that!
Since this has happened we have found out the following things:
- the "minor" turned 21 1.5 days after the incident.
- she was dressed to look over 30 (and did)
- police were purposely setting the stores up
- police had already pre-booked court dates prior to finding "guilty" people

Now this is just not right for a lot of reasons and I'm getting tired of typing, so I'll let you make your own decisions. But how is catching Andrew and the others helping get rid of drunk drivers and drug dealers and other serious offenders? How is this helping society at large?

3. Last story. Now this did not happen to use personally, but goes along with our theroy of police entrapment and basically that they are wasting taxpayer money. The purposely put a purse in shopping carts at Walmart with $50 dollars and a camera in it. If you returned the purse to customer service with the money no big deal, but if you took the $50 you were arrested! Hello! Is this going to really stop pretty theft? NO! Anyway, you can get the full story here. Seriously, I really feel a lot safer now...(the sarcasm has a little left to be desired since I'm typing, but trust me its there!)

Random Thoughts

I'm feeling a little random today...

I've figured out what leg fat is good for. When your children are old enough to start pulling up it makes a great handle to grab on to.

I have my body back all to myself. Little E has quite nursing. I'm both sad and glad. Its hard to see baby days getting shorter and shorter.
I hope it rains today so I don't have to water the garden. How do dirty towels end up in our office....ANDREW.....

Excited about trying a new recipe for Molten Lava Chocolate Cake on Thursday for friends. Will let you know how it turns out.

I've Started!

Ok. I've done it. I've starting walking in the mornings. I have been meaning to do this for days...no weeks and I have walked two mornings in a row now. Its been a great start to the day and Little E loves it! She sits in the stroller and sings and dances. Even though I'm dragging when I start I come back home ready to start the day. Hopefully, I can keep this up. A has been super busy lately, but he's hoping to start coming along as well. Walking/exercising is a great way to start the day and beat the heat of the middle of the day! Although, in saying that its still pretty warm outside...:)

More About Me

At the moment I am a part-time stay at home mom. I work at the Challenger Learning Center in Paducah leading simulated missions to the Moon, Mars, and a Comet for 5th - 7th grade students. Its has been a fantastic job. Its nice that I still get to teach (my former day job), but not have the responsibility of my own classroom. I love that its also part time and I get to spend lots of time with my daughter. She changes everyday and I love getting to see that.
My husband is a dairy farmer from New Zealand. He works at a local liquor store and does real estate appraisals. Andrew also dabbles in trading futures. There is never a dull moment with him around. He doesn't like things to stay the same for long (unlike his loving wife...).
Our daughter is 14 months old and is such an easy baby. She is generally happy and loves life! We are planning on having more kids (Hubby thinks 2 and I think 3) and I'm hoping they turn out as easy going as Little E, but I'm not holding my breath!
Other than that we are living in Kentucky, but both really miss the lifestyle and scenery we left behind in New Zealand and think one day we will be back.

First Post

Sometimes I think I would like to comment on my life and what's happening in a more random way than showing off my darling daughter and other family accomplishments. So I've started a second blog. Hopefully, someone will find this mildly amusing.
